Diesel Mechanic
Diesel mechanics specialize in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of diesel engines in vehicles such as trucks, buses, and construction equipment. They diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure diesel engines meet safety and environmental standards. Diesel mechanics are essential for the reliable operation of commercial fleets and heavy machinery.
To become a diesel mechanic in New Jersey, you typically need a high school diploma or GED, completion of a formal diesel mechanic training program, two years of work experience, and successful completion of ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification exams. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may also be required for test-driving large vehicles.
